The Keys to Collingwood … Street Pianos set to sing again throughout Collingwood’s Historic Downtown
July 31, 2017
The Keys to Collingwood Festival marks the return of the popular Street Pianos! Beautifully restored pianos are now installed on the streets of Collingwood’s Historic Downtown for all to enjoy. As we celebrate our country’s 150 birthday this year, the pianos will feature iconic images from each of the provinces and territories which make up our great country.
Everyone is encouraged to plink a tune, practice their scales or polish a Minuet for both their own enjoyment and that of the passersby. The unexpected often happens when someone sits down at one of these wonderful musical instruments.
Returning this year is the not to be missed weekly ‘Piano Talks’. Every Thursday in August at 10 a.m., meet to enjoy a free, fun and informative walking tour of the Street Pianos. Along the way, your guide, Catherine Brown will recount anecdotes about the town’s historic buildings and local legends. Expect to be serenaded on the ivories at each stop! Just meet under the Collingwood Town Clock (97 Hurontario Street) 10 minutes before the tour starts.
New this year is the Monster Ground Foot Piano, located beside Collingwood’s Town Hall (under the clock tower). Come on downtown and let your dance moves create some musical tunes!
This is the fourth year for this project… a brainchild of musicians Jim Kinnear and Catherine Brown …. and the beautifully refurbished historical instruments will be placed at strategic locations in downtown Collingwood.
As you enjoy the street pianos, explore our historic downtown… rich with award-winning restaurants and cafes, trendy boutiques, theatre and art galleries
