Downtown Streets Filled With Great Music
One of the big summertime hits in downtown Collingwood last summer was the Peak to Shore Music Fest. The downtown streets were filled with the sounds of great music, performed by some of the finest musicians from Canada and beyond.
The festival's Frank McNulty, Collingwood's "jazz blues guy," said that the former Collingwood Jazz and Blues Festival and the Blues at Blue Festival came together to launch the new format for this year. McNulty said the marriage produced a bigger, better, regional event. "I think this is the future. This is the way it's going to be. It's the start of a lot of interplay between Blue Mountain Resort and the Town of Collingwood, and I think it's terrific for everyone involved" McNulty said.
The Peak to Shore Music Fest featured stages in Thornbury, throughout the Village at Blue Mountain and throughout Downtown Collingwood. The festival opened on Thursday August 13th with a special Gala featuring the music of The Shuffle Demons. Grammy Award winner Alannah Myles performed on Saturday August 15th in the Village at Blue Mountain. In all, sixteen bands performed throughout the region over the weekend, and the music was outstanding!
A real highlight in Downtown Collingwood was the performance of Marisa Lindsay, with the Eddie Bullen Group. Marisa is from the Barbados but spends time in Toronto. She loves to get away to visit Collingwood, and has performed throughout the region. Marisa has been singing for 14 years and has just released her second CD called "Deeper Love." Lindsay says that she absolutely loves visiting the Collingwood - Blue Mountain Region. "It's beautiful. The beaches are not far removed from the beaches that we have in Barbados" she said, but she just had to add that the weather, unlike here, stays nice and warm all year where she lives!
Frank McNulty (www.jbgproductions.ca) is also the man behind the popular "Jazz at the Station" series that continues throughout August on Wednesday evenings. The people of Collingwood and the The Blue Mountains have been treated to some outstanding music and performances this summer.
